OFW'sWorking abroad is a dream shared by millions of Filipinos because of the opportunities it brings. 10) Bahrain – Bahrain opens our list of the top countries for OFWs. And not surprisingly so since Middle East countries have historically been an open destination for OFWs for decades now. Over 10,000 job orders are available in Bahrain as of July 2015 and many of the open positions are for cleaners and housemaids.

9) Malaysia – Our neighbour to the south is also a top destination for job seekers. Over 21,000 jobs are open in Malaysia and aside from domestic helpers, Malaysian companies are also looking for factory workers, engineers and technicians.

8) Italy – Deployment to Italy has gone down over the years but it was high enough in the 2009-2013 period to place the country on the top 10 list.

7) Taiwan – Being a highly industrialised country, it’s no surprise to learn that factory workers are in demand in Taiwan. Aside from factory workers, caretakers are also sought after. These two work categories comprise most of the 29,500+ job orders in the POEA list.

6) Kuwait – It’s not hard to find an open position for a “household service worker” in the over 51,000 job orders available in Kuwait. In fact, there’s quite a variety in job openings in Kuwait and you can find openings in the construction industry such as for engineers and carpenters. There are also jobs available in the food service industry such as chefs and cooks.

5) Qatar – Agencies are trying to fill over 85,000 job orders Qatar as of July 2015. Domestic workers are in demand but you can find openings for laborers, waiters, hairdressers, and nurses.

4) Hong Kong – Finding a job as a domestic helper in Hong Kong is not hard, in fact, finding any other job as an OFW is hard! Close to 50,000 job orders for Hong Kong are mostly made up of offers for domestic helpers.

3) Singapore – There is a demand for nurses in the Lion City. Unlike in the past, there’s not much demand for IT workers in Singapore now as there are almost none in the 19,000 job orders for OFWs from Singapore. As a reminder from the POEA, Singapore has strict laws regarding direct hiring of foreign workers so it’s better to apply through accredited agencies.

2) United Arab Emirates – Dubai and the rest of the United Arab Emirates continue to attract a lot of skilled Pinoy workers. There are over 87,000 job orders from the United Arab Emirates, and they include jobs in the food industry, service industry, and also for office workers.

1) Saudi Arabia – The top country for OFWs remains Saudi Arabia. Technicians, electricians, drivers and labourers are some of the most in-demand workers in the Kingdom. Agencies are trying to fill 78,000 job orders from Saudi Arabia.

Final Thoughts

A lot of Pinoys are hoping to work abroad for a chance to earn more money and send some back home to their families. In 2014, personal remittances by OFWs increased to $26.97 billion, up from $25.37 billion in the previous year. This money of course not just supports families back home but also the whole Philippine economy which benefits greatly from OFW remittances. If you do plan to work abroad, make sure to work only with accredited employment agencies.
