Bahrain to host GCC-Asia conference

Bahrain_manamaThe GCC-Asia Trade and Investment Conference is scheduled to be held in Manama, Bahrain later this year in October, a bulletin by the Bahrain News Agency announced on June 9.

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) will be the kingdom’s host for the event, which is expected to focus on enhancing trade and economic relations between the two regions.

The event will offer the opportunity for the Bahraini private sector to springboard into emerging Asian markets, especially those in ASEAN. Bahrain will also use the occasion to push efforts to facilitate bilateral trade, exchange information and data, develop a mechanism to settle trade disputes.

According to the BCCI, the education, infrastructure, agriculture and food security, and manufacturing sectors will be on top of the agenda.

A major deal in bilateral relations between the two regions, Thailand and Bahrain set up a committee to establish a food exportation facility to funnel Thailand agricultural goods into the GCC in December 2012.

Trade between the Asean and the GCC was valued at $83 billion in 2010, up 25 per cent on 2009, as per the latest figures available.
