Pacquiao, 34, is already active in Philippine politics. In May 2010, he was elected to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines, representing the province of Sarangani. He is said to be the one of the highest paid athletes in the world and one of the wealthiest Filipinos. According to Forbes, his fortune stands at $34 million, while sports magazines estimate his wealth up to at $85 million.

Pacquiao’s boxing record stands at: Total fights 60, wins 54, wins by k.o. 38, losses : 4 and draws 2, making him a national hero for many Filipinos.

In the Philippines, he is sponsored and backed by the influential San Miguel Group. For his electoral campaign in 2010 he spent $7 million. He is currently a member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), a social democrat party with 1 seat in the senate led by Vice-President Jejomar Binay. The party is part of the opposition group United Nationalist Alliance that is expected to play a significant role in the next presidential and vice presidential election elections in the Philippines in 2016.
