Brunei to host Cyber Security Awareness Week 2013

brucertThe Authority for Infocommunications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) in collaboration with the E-Government National Centre (EGNC) and the Information Technology Protective Security Services (ITPSS) as Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCert) will be organising a four-day event entitled Cyber Security Awareness Week 2013 on Nov. 9, the country’s government said on November 6.

The theme of the event is”Promoting Cybersecurity & the Effective Use of Social Media”. One of the main objectives of the event is to promote and raise awareness on the importance of being aware and secure while doing activities on the internet in the country.

BruCERT was established in May 2004. It was formed in collaboration with AITI and the Ministry of Communication to become the nation’s first trusted one-stop referral agency in dealing with computer-related and internet-related security incidents in Brunei. BruCERT will coordinate with local and international computer security institutions, network service providers, security vendors, government agencies as well as other related organisations to facilitate the detection, analysis and prevention of security incidents on the Internet.

AITI was established in 2003 by the AITI Order 2001 to function as regulator for the nation’s ICT and telecommunication industry, as a national radio-frequency spectrum manager and developer of Brunei’s ICT industry.
