Cambodia could get first producing gold mine

Angkor Gold, a Angkor Gold explorationVancouver-based and Toronto-listed company that explores potential gold mines in Cambodia, has said it will step up exploration in northeastern Cambodia at a location that may become the country’s first producing gold mine.

The company’s president and chief executive Mike Weeks said in a May 6 statement that the exploration programme takes place in Ratanakiri Province following the signing of a definitive agreement with Tohui Beishan Property Group Holding Limited of Hong Kong. In anticipation of the closing of the agreement Angkor has contracted Beijing Explo-Tech Engineering Co. and the China Chemical Geology and Mine Bureau Shandong Geological Prospecting Institute that have commenced work with Angkor’s geological team.

Angkor has 7 exploration licences in Cambodia that cover 1,448 square kilometers which the company has been actively exploring over the past 5 years.

The company is the first North American publicly traded mineral exploration company in Cambodia which gives it a first-mover advantage.
