Cambodia reports $1.41b trade deficit

Cambodia farmer womanCambodia has accumulated a trade deficit of $1.41 billion in the first eight months of 2013, according to figures from the Ministry of Commerce released on September 16.

The country’s total import and export volume was valued at $10. 45 billion during the January-August period, up 20 per cent from $8.67 billion over the same period in 2012, the figures showed.

Export rose by 27 per cent to $4.52 billion, while imports went up by 15 per cent to $5.93 billion, leading to a trade deficit of $1.41 billion.

The country’s main trading partners are the US, the European Union, China, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia. Garment products accounted for more than 80 per cent of the country’s total exports.
