Cheapest place to buy Apple gadgets in Asia: Malaysia!

Apple-ProductsA price comparison between popular Apple gadgets in Asia brought to light that almost all of them are cheapest to purchase in Malaysia at current exchange rates due to lower taxes, while for many devices China is the most expensive place in East Asia, and New Zealand in Asia-Pacific.

The comparison was done by Malaysia-based web portal Hongkiat.com, which took the Apple resale price in the US and compared it to resale prices in 11 countries in Southeast Asia, East Asia and Asia-Pacific at exchange rates as of June 24.

While Malaysia showed the lowest prices for most gadgets, Mainland China – which ironically manufactures many of Apple’s products – turned out to be the priciest country due to high import taxes. Hong Kong and Japan were also locations with more moderate sales prices, while resellers in the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand are selling at even higher prices than in the US. Singapore is somewhere in between, and India is more on the higher side.

As an example, the basic version of the MacBook Pro costs $1,199 in the US, while it sells for just $1,147 in Malaysia, but for $1,422 in China.

In its conclusion, Hongkiat.com said that in Malaysia, Japan and  Hong Kong, some Apple products can be had at below US prices, and savings can be between $100 and $900 depending on where the device is purchased.
