Eurocopter eyes Thai market

EurocopterEurocopter, a division of European aviation and defense group EADS, plans to increase its fleet in Thailand to 50 aircraft in the next two years from currently 35 now, Derek Sharples, chief executive of Eurocopter South East Asia, said in the Bangkok Post.

Eurocopter has a strong presence in the Thai civil market, with all but four of the 35 delivered helicopters being used for corporate transport, emergency medical services and other purposes. Eurocopter has just begun address the market in the armed forces, with the delivery of four units to the Royal Thai Army having taken place in 2013.

Eurocopter also wants to sell its models to Southeas Asia’s burgeoning petroleum industry, aiming to receive 30 orders over the next five years. In Thailand, Eurocopter is directing its sales pitch to PTT Exploration and Production and Chevron Thailand, the country’s two biggest upstream petroleum producers. It also eyes helicopter operators that serve the Gulf of Thailand such as SFS Aviation and Thai Aviation Services.

Other countries on the list of possible Eurocopter customers in ASEAN are Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam.
