The Malaysian government recently announced 15 new projects that are part of the country’s Economic Transition Programmed, aimed at bringing developed-nation status, in the form of infrastructure, job creation, and access to technology, to its residents by 2020.  An initial series of 6 projects, including a refinery and petrochemical developer, were announced in the past few weeks.

The latest 9 ventures include creating Malaysia’s first ever private teaching hospital and elder-care facility, 2 new hospitals, exploration into shrimp fishing and processing, and a massive investment in early childhood development centers.  Combined, the 15 new ventures will account for an estimated RM63.38 billion in investments, create about 63,000 jobs, and add RM66.35 billion to the national GNI.  The ETP has already created an estimated 363,000 jobs and received RM170.28 billion in investments.
