A report on the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 released on July 30 has highlighted mistakes and protocol guidelines that were not followed, but nothing really new, complain families of passengers on board the ill-fated plane.

They expressed their disappointment after the report showed no new findings whatsoever on the reason for the plane’s mysterious disappearance.

It rather confirmed that flight MH370 did in fact deviate from its flight path and to do this it was switched to manual control.

“We cannot determine with any certainty the reason the plane diverted from its planned route. We are not ruling out any possibility,”” said lead investigator, Kok Soo Chon.

Investigators have also not been able to establish if the aircraft was flown by anyone other than the pilot.

“We also cannot exclude the possibility that there’s unlawful interference by a third party,” Chon said.

The report however highlighted mistakes and protocols and guidelines that were not followed, the families told reporters after a briefing on the report.

“We hope that these mistakes will not be repeated and that measures are put in place to prevent them in the future,” said Grace Nathan, a lawyer whose mother, Anne Daisy, was on the plane.

Flight MH370, carrying 239 people, disappeared on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014. It is one of the world’s greatest aviation mysteries.
