“Minion” Happy Meal toy madness at McDonald’s Singapore.

Remember when Singapore lined up at McDonald’s in order to own the omnipotent black Hello Kitty?

Well, it’s happening again – but only this time, with Gru’s minions from the Despicable Me movies. On July 11, McDonald’s launched a series of palm-sized minions that were the latest toy to be included in their Happy Meals.

The minions are short, yellow, big eyed, pill shaped creatures that speak in gibberish and perform half-assed duties for Gru, the main character in the Despicable Me movies. They’ve recently gathered a following of admirers who cherish their innocent, cute and playful ways.

Long queues formed around Bishan Park at 11am on July 25, with a wait time lasting as long as long as four hours.

Alycia, a contributor for the Singaporean news site Stomp, took pictures sighting a long snaking queue that stretched long across a bride. The line was still lengthy even 40 minutes after the release of the toys.

“This photo was taken at Bishan Park at 11am sharp, just as McDonald’s released its third batch of minions… looks like the craze hasn’t ended yet,” she said, adding that “there is still a long line of people queuing up for the toys at 11.40am”

Since minions were being sold out everywhere, McDonalds responded accordingly, stating that there was “a  limit of 3 Happy Meal Despicable Me 2 toys per customer transaction” and that the promotion is “only for dine-in customers and will not be available via Drive-Thru, McDelivery, and Institutional stores.”

With all these rules set in place, McDonald’s Singapore announced a backup plan for those without their minion companions, saying that those interested can place an order from July 25t to August 7, 2013, but that they would be redeemed in December 2013.

Can you hold out a few months, Singapore?
