myanmar_wefMyanmar entered the world stage on June 5 by hosting the first ever event in the country for the World Economic Forum (WEF), the influential gathering of global political and business personalities.

The World Economic Forum on East Asia takes place from June 5 to 7 in Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw and will touch upon themes of transformation, regional integration and regional solutions for global resilience in ASEAN in general and in Myanmar in particular.

The event is being attended, among many other high-profile delegates, by Philippine President Benigno Aquino III, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Laos Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong and Myanmar President U Thein Sein. Myanmar opposition leader and pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi will also be at the forum and India will be represented by commerce minister Anand Sharma.
