Myanmar plans to build nuclear reactors for research purposes

Ko Ko Oo told the Upper House of the parliament when asked that although the use of nuclear energy is supposed to be dangerous, correct application of it can be beneficial as the technology can be applied in various fields including health, agriculture and livestock breeding among others.

He stressed the need to build a nuclear reactor in order to conduct nuclear research more effectively, but said that the government at present is still trying to implement measures for protection against nuclear radiation, drafting laws for non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, building infrastructure for nuclear technology and development of human resources in the aspect.

He reiterated that Myanmar will make the move at “an appropriate time”.
