Myanmar to develop sustainable tourism

inle lakeMyanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is conducting a survey to look into the prospect of sustainable tourism in popular areas such as Inle Lake, Kalaw Town and Chaungtha Beach.

The survey will be jointly carried out by the Institute for International Development and the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development. The Ministry of Tourism has been urging them to implement the survey as soon as possible.

The ministry also stated that they are going to provide Chaung Thar Beach with electricity 24 hours a day and that they have been working on this task with the Ayeyarwady Region Government.

The development of tourism industry in Myanmar is the fastest among ASEAN nations. A number of foreign investors have expressed interest in working with Myanmar to boost the country’s tourism industry.

About two million tourists from  Asia, Europe, Africa and the US arrived in Myanmar in 2013. The figure is expected to reach three million in 2014, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
