The business mogul left Malaysia four decades ago and now resides in Hong Kong. He made his money from years of running an empire which includes palm oil giant Wilmar and the Shangri-La Asia chain of hotels.

Second richest in the index in Malaysia is the owner of Maxis and Astro, Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan. His net worth amounted at $8.8 billion, making him one of the top 140 billionaires in the world.

Meanwhile, Genting Group’s founder Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong’s son Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay stands at the third spot with a net worth of $7.5 billion. He ranked 173 in the index.
