Sarawak CM meets Qatar Prime Minister

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had an audience with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Jassim Jabr Al Thani, during the Inside Investor Forum Asia 2012 in Doha on October 8.

During the courtesy call, Taib had the opportunity to brief his host on the progress and development of Sarawak in terms of investment opportunities, according to a statement issued by Qatar’s state information department.

Reportedly, the chief minister briefed Sheikh Hamad on investment opportunities in Sarawak for Qatar. Sheikh Hamad expressed interest in investing in the halal industry in Qatar, Taib told reporters after the meeting.

At the Inside Investor forum, Taib was accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Ragard Kurdi Taib, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, State Minister of Public Utilities Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also the Minister of Industrial Development and the Second Minister of Resource Planning and Development, at the event.

Other members of his delegation were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s office (Environment and Promotion of Technical Education) Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Coordinator for Halal Hub Tan Sri Rastam Mohd Isa, State Planning Unit Director, Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, Permanent Secretary of the Industrial Development Ministry Datuk Liaw Soon Eng and Sarawak Energy Bhd Chief Executive Officer Torstein Dale Sjotveit.

At the event, attended by leading businessmen from the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) namely Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, Taib also gave a keynote speech on investment opportunities in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy, SCORE.
