pttPTT, Thailand’s largest energy firm, is readying billions of US dollars to invest further into the rapidly opening Myanmar economy, President and CEO Pailin Chuchottaworn was quoted as saying in local media this week without naming a specific amount.

PTT could target a large power plant, according to Pailin, addressing Myanmar’s exponentially growing energy demand.

A study is currently underway concerning small oil refineries, which, Pailin says, PTT could develop into a larger complex. The location was unnamed.

The announcement of the massive investment follows the oil and gas giant’s commencement of marketing campaigns for its lubrication products in the country. PTT has also inked a deal to build a standard fuel station on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, which links the two urban centers with the country’s capital, Naypyidaw.

PTT top man said that the unspecified amount could be even further augmented by billions of more US dollars once development plans become clearer, ultimately aligning itself with Thailand’s energy policy, which targets Myanmar.
