Vietnam fisheryVietnam expects to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Indonesia to support the plan of establishing a joint venture on fisheries business, Vietnam Ambassador to Indonesia Nguyen Xuan Thuy said in Jakarta on May 20, Antara news agency  reported.

“The MoU is still being negotiated. Vietnam has demands as well as capacity to extend investment cooperation with Indonesia in the field of aquaculture and fisheries for domestic consumption and exports from both countries,” the ambassador said.

According to him, Vietnam and Indonesia expect to establish a fishery business where fishermen from both countries can go fishing in the border areas and process the fishing products for the benefit of both countries.

“Together with the political will of our leaders, all future bilateral agreements will certainly turn opportunities into a reality for the development of our economies and trade,” the ambassador said when interviewed at his residence in Central Jakarta.

Thuy added one other possible sector that Vietnam wished to develop with Indonesia is the tourism sector. He said Vietnam expected more Indonesian tourists to visit the country in the future in line with the opening of direct flights from Jakarta to Ho Chi Minh and vice versa by Vietnam Airlines recently.

“Currently, the direct flight from Jakarta to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa is operated everyday and is always full. Many Indonesian tourists are interested in visiting temples in Vietnam, while most Vietnamese people choose the Bali province when visiting Indonesia,” the ambassador remarked.
