ADCB rolls out mobile payment system

ADCB rolls out mobile payment systemAs the use of cash decreases worldwide, banks are struggling to find a new method of payment to appeal to their young, mobile customers.  Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank has recently announced Mobi, a program that uses your mobile phone number to verify payments.  Your 10-digit phone number and a 6-digit is all you would need to make a payment to an authorized vendor, who would verify the account via text message.

ADCB is currently courting vendors for the new system, which hopes to launch soon.  It will first be available only to existing ADCB customers, but hopes to cater to all residents, especially the younger generation, shortly.  It is mainly for use for smaller purchases of up to Dh300, and you will be able to store up to Dh1,000 in your Mobi account.
