Dubai to make Mastercard list of global destination cities
Dubai has come in sixth on MasterCard’s first ever list of Global Destination Cities. The list was compiled by analyzing arrival and departure information, and transit passengers. Dubai saw about 7.9 million visitors in 2010, who spent a combined $7.8 billion in the region. This is an increase of almost 24% over the previous year.
Abu Dhabi was cited as the 7th most visited city in the Middle East, and is expecting a 15% increase in visitors this year. A startling 46% increase is expected by tourists from Manchester, UK, in part due to the government of Abu Dhabi’s sponsorship of the Manchester City football club. Chinese visitors make up about one third of travelers to the UAE.
