Facebook down in large parts of Southeast Asia
Facebook users on Monday night (as per Southeast Asia time zones) were unable to post and update their status on the popular social media platform.
The problem occurred around 8pm Bangkok time, and in minutes news spread around the globe – per Twitter.
Investvine received news from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines about the problem.
Trying to post to a business page yielded an error message. Even the simple act of liking a status yielded a similar message. The same applied to posting in groups and uploading photos. Users could get to the site, but it only looked normal until they try to post. Posting via a third-party app yielded the same result, an indication of a potentially bigger issue.
The disruption became known shortly before Facebook shares started trading at the Nasdaq in New York on Monday morning New York Time, but the share price remained relatively stable.
A statement from Facebook about the disruption f0llowed a few hours later, saying the company had carried out maintenance work and apologises for any problems.
