Facebook opens official presence in Vietnam

Vietnam-Facebook1The social network Facebook has around 22 million users in Vietnam but no official presence in the country to deal with advertising partners directly. This is now changing as T&A Ogilvy has been named official representative of Facebook in Vietnam from January 2014 onwards..

Even though Facebook has not opened a representative office or a company in Vietnam, the representative will field questions from local media and transfer them to those in charge at Facebook.

In addition, CleverAds Corp became first official advertising representative to boost business activity in Vietnam.

Foreign companies offering cross-border services (not opening companies or representative offices in Vietnam) such as Facebook and Google can earn advertising revenues directly or via advertising agents. Some 80 per cent of revenues are from Vietnamese companies with advertisements connected directly to Facebook and Google while 20 per cent are from their advertising partners in Vietnam.

In fact, Facebook is officially blocked in Vietnam but can easily be bypassed. Vietnam’s internet population is by far the most aggressive Facebook population in the region. In Vietnam, Facebook is currently at 71.4 per cent penetration of the total internet population which amounts to 32 million people. That means over 22 million Vietnamese people are on Facebook.
