Google announces Google TV

Google announces Google TVGoogle has recently proven their desire to get into the video entertainment industry by announcing Google TV.  The new venture will offer both blockbuster films and original content on their 20 new channels, accessible for a price via their subsidiary YouTube.  Google is hoping to use their domination of the search engine industry to successfully introduce their new entertainment platform.

Google recently acquired Widevine, a company that makes digital rights management software, in an effort to woo studios into exclusively deals with them.  Digital piracy is one of the biggest problems facing the movie industry, so Google hopes to combat it actively.  Along with movies, they will also feature original content and are looking to make deals with major celebrities.  It is not clear if they will charge for television content as well.
