Indonesia AirAsia X readies for takeoff

FC40HHCOW6Indonesia AirAsia Extra, a joint venture between AirAsia X and PT Kirana Anugerah Perkasa, will start applying for operating permits and slots to fly international routes after having received an official air operator’s certificate.

The joint venture, established in January this year, received its certificate from Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Transport ministry on September 4, AirAsia X said in an announcement to the stock exchange.

AirAsia X is the long-haul arm of Asia’s largest budget carrier by passengers, AirAsia Bhd.

The new joint venture is intended to provide feeder traffic from north Asia and Australia to AirAsia X’s operations in Indonesia, with Bali as an international hub.

Indonesia AirAsia Extra will aim to expand its fleet beyond the one Airbus 330-300 it is currently leasing, AirAsia X said.
