The InterContinental Kuala Lumpur said it will complete phase one of a two-phase renovation by May 15, 2012, debuting a brand new main lobby. In addition to the lobby renovation, a refurbishment of 110 Grand Premier Rooms will be complete mid-April, a hotel spokesperson said.

Phase one also includes the renovation of the hotels’s award-wining Tatsu Japanese Restaurant.

Phase two will start mid-July with the renovation of the hotel’s Lobby Lounge and the Toh Lee Chinese Restaurant. Minor touch-ups to the meeting, event and function spaces will also take place during phase two, with the renovation of Club InterContinental lounge to complete the entire renovation process.

“The renovation to the main lobby and the facelift we gave our Grand Premier Rooms is to ensure that our guests receive the InterContinental standards they have come to expect,” said Phil Riley, General Manager of InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.

“In addition to meeting our returning guests’ expectations we are reaching out to the local market in Malaysia and first impressions are lasting,” Riley added.

The signature element to the new lobby design will be the Concierge Lounge. The first of its kind in Malaysia, this lounge will feature sofas in an interactive seating design with the latest technology available for guest use, including iPads and iPod docking stations.

InterContinental Kuala Lumpur is the first InterContinental branded hotel in Malaysia and opened in February 2011. The hotel is just steps away from the Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and within walking distance to shopping and entertainment activities.
