Khazanah seeks content investment
Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the investment arm of the Malaysian government, together with Astro Overseas, a company of Malaysia’s pay-TV group Astro, has set up a new joint-venture to invest in companies engaged in content development and intellectual property exploitation.
The joint venture, Ideate Media, will provide financial backing to high-quality content and concepts from around the world, in either live action or animated form, for feature films and television series, Khazanah and Astro said in a release.
Zainir Aminullah, investment director at Astro Overseas and previously executive director of Astro Entertainment, has been made CEO of the new venture.
Initial productions will center on mid-budget, English-language content with global distribution potential which are Asian-themed or use Asia as a backdrop. Over the next three years, Ideate is looking to back up to 12 international projects.
The new firm has plans to participate in up to 12 international projects over the next three years with the first being announced shortly. Interested content producers can send their proposals to zainir@ideatemedia.com.my.
The launch of Ideate Media is another initiative of the Malaysian government initiatives to further transform the country into a leading destination for international content producers and filmmakers.
