Laos and Vietnam launch mining firm in Cuba
Laos and Vietnam have opened a joint-venture plant to extract and process gold and silver in Cuba, the Cuban news agency Prensa Latina reported on July 21.
The investment value is said to be as high as $31 million. The new company, Sakai Mining Corporation, will operate a plant that is capable of processing 250 tonnes of raw minerals, the report said, and will mainly produce for export.
The joint venture partners are Vietnam’s Hong Quang Work Construction & Real Estate Investment Company and the Vientiane Trade Ltd Company of Laos.
The opening was attended by Politburo member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, as well as member of the Politburo of Vietnam’s Communist Party, Le Hong Anh, according to Prensa Latina.
