Malaysia’s Khazanah plans $400m IPO of its theme parks

legoland-malaysiaMalaysia’s state investment company Khazanah Nasional is planning to raise $400 million in an initial public offering (IPO) of its theme park business, according to a Bloomberg report from June 13.

The company to be listed is Themed Attractions and Resorts Bhd, which owns resorts including KidZania, Legoland Malaysia and Puteri Harbour Family Theme Park, which houses the first Sanrio Hello Kitty Town outside Japan.

Ongoing projects of Themed Attractions and Resorts Bhd are Desaru Coast on the southeastern tip of Johor, a beachfront development covering over 1,000 acres and 17 kilometers of beach with leisure and entertainment offerings such as Ocean Splash Water Park, Ocean Quest Marine Park and luxury resorts managed by Starwood Hotels/Sheraton, Shangri-La and Aman Resorts, as well as two golf courses. The resort is slated to open in 2015

Other projects are KidZania Singapore, also planned to open in 2015, and Malaysia Truly Asia Attractions, a culture theme park in Kuala Lumpur,  planned to be launched in 2016.

Khazanah is reportedly working with Maybank and Bank of America Corp on the share sale.
