Manila business district site of multiple homicide
A grizzly murder scene unfolded in the financial heart of the Philippine capital Manila on July 3, AFP has reported.
According to local police, five young men were gunned down before dawn on streets along the outskirts of Makati.
The victims were all related to each other and walking home together from a party when they were attacked.
“They were just walking home when three men arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on the young men and then immediately fled,” Chief Superintendent Anthony Gandang, operations chief for the Makati business district in Manila, told AFP.
“This is the first time I can recall of something like this happening with so many victims in just one incident,” Gandang added.
The high-rise enclave of Makati is viewed as one of the most prestigious locations in the country, home to sprawling al fresco luxury malls and leafy condominium compounds. However, the district is not without its dark side.
The last homicide involving a foreigner in the area occurred in November 2012, when a US marine was stabbed to death outside the notorious red light district by Filipino assailants after getting wrapped up in an argument.
