Myanmar could be ‘the next Austria’

A senior official in the Myanmar government has said that Myanmar “could be the next Austria” – at least in a geographical sense.
“Austria, smacked in the middle of Europe, is the sort of corridor to the East, West, South and North. I think we can do the same thing, that we can be the next Austria, linking India and China,” Aung Tun Thet, a member of President Thein Sein’s National Economic and Social Advisory Council, said on May 31 on business news channel CNBC.
Aung Tun Thet, who is also a senior advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, added that Myanmar’s strategic location between the region’s two economic powerhouses of India and China “presents a huge opportunity for the transport and logistics sector.”
