Myanmar presents ‘Miss Supranational’

Khin Wint WahIn a bid to take part in the next “Miss Supranational” beauty pageant to be held from August 17 to September in Belarus with beauties from 98 other nations, Myanmar on August 14 presented it own contestant, 18-year old Khin Wint Wah.

She will be the first ever Burmese woman to compete in the Miss Supranational contest, and the second woman from Myanmar to compete internationally after Miss Myanmar International 2012 since and after 60 years of absence of the country at beauty contests.

Wah gives her occupation as botany student and her hobbis as dancing, traveling and “cultural interaction.” She was chosen through 99 test questions focusing on general knowledge rather than the usual beauty parade.

“A ‘Miss’ is a public figure who represents her country and takes part in a scholarship programme. We want to show off Myanmar’s beautiful and intelligent women to the world, which is why we organised our pageant,” Miss Supranational Myanmar national director, Han Zaw Latt, said.

“We are inexperienced, and this was our first attempt to host an international beauty pageant, but the international organisation liked our efforts.”

The Miss Supranational Pageant is recognised by the World Beauty Association and was founded in 2009. The first pageant was held in Poland. The winner of the 2013 event in Belarus will be paid $30,000; the first runner-up will receive $10,000; $5000 will go the second runner-up; and the third runner-up will receive $3000 in prize money. There will also be many other awards, such as a people’s choice award, swimwear award, evening gown award and a best costume award.
