New domestic airline set to take off in Malaysia

SKS Airways, a new commercial airline in Malaysia, has been awarded a full Air Service License by the Malaysian Aviation Commission, effective January 1, 2022, the company said in a statement on January 6.
With the licensing process completed, the airline is now “officially in business” and would launch scheduled flights “in the near future,” director Rohman Ahmad said.
“The last two years have been tough for the aviation and tourism industry due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we foresee that the doors of opportunities will slowly start to open up,” Ahmad said.
He noted that SKS Airways has a focus on “unserved and underserved destinations” in Malaysia.
It is understood that the new airline, as a start, will fly from its base at Subang Airport in Subang Jaya just southwest of Kuala Lumpur to the southern coastal city of Johor Bahru and to popular holiday resort islands off Peninsular Malaysia, namely Pulau Pangkor, Pulau Redang and Pulau Tioman.
Booking system already online
The airline has an initial fleet of four Canadian-made De Havilland DHC6 Twin-Otter. Its booking system is already online, but flight dates are not yet available as of the time of writing.
SKS Airways is part of the SKS Group of Companies, a Malaysian business conglomerate controlled by businessman Alan Sim See Kiang with interests in property development, investment holdings, hospitality, credit finance and aviation.
