Petronas announces Johor for new refinery
Petronas, the state-run Malaysian petrochemical company, has announced Johor to be the site of their new $20 billion crude-oil refinery. The new complex will also include a naphtha cracker and a petrochemical and polymer processor. Johor was selected for its proximity to deep-water ports and shipping lanes, along with a high demand for energy in the area.
According to officials, the refinery will be capable of processing 300,000 barrels of gasoline, jet fuel, diesel and/or fuel oil a day. Contracts for construction should be commissioned by the end of 2016.
