Leni Robredo, the polar opposite of President Rodrigo Duterte resigned from her post as the chairperson of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating council due to irreconcilable differences.
Leni Robredo a former human rights lawyer had taken issue with the war waged on drugs that has claimed over 5000 lives, the heroes burial of Ferdinand Marcos, sexual attacks against women including disparaging remarks about her appearance and private life, plans by Duterte to reimpose the death penalty and the final straw came when Duterte had a cabinet secretary text Robredo asking her to not to attend any further cabinet meetings.
Duterte has shown he will not take kindly to those that oppose his views as shown with his public war of words with a senator that was chairing an inquiry into his war on drugs and her subsequent public humiliation and declaring open season on journalists and human rights activists should they hinder his war on drugs.
As Robredo continued to challenge the President on his actions, the president had decided he did not want alternate views to his own to serve on his administration. “There is no point for her to attend cabinet meetings if her position is always contradictory to the president’s,” said cabinet secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr, the messenger that had relayed the text to Leni Robredo.
The House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez declared “Considering the situation, I think she is FIRED.”
Duterte has initially remained mum on the resignation to reports of Robredo setting up an opposition party to his administration, but tellingly told the opposition to bide their time for their opportunity as his administration deals with the issues he promised to tackle during his campaign.
“To the opposition, just wait for your time. Anyway … You’ve had your days,” Mr. Duterte said. His Communications Secretary Martin Andanar has since announced the President accepted Robredo’s resignation “with a heavy heart.”
The President is safe in the knowledge that he still enjoys support from the people since taking office with a 92 per cent approval rating and has shored up his support in a calculated political maneuver appeasing the Marcos family who still enjoy popular support in the North of the Philippines and allowing him to shore up support within the Luzon region.
Vice-President Leni Robredo, defeated the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Ferdinand ‘Bong Bong’ Marcos Jr in a hotly disputed race and was dismayed with President Duterte during his recent visit to China as he included within his official entourage ‘Bong Bong’ Marcos, “In China, the president took Bong Bong Marcos and even introduced him as the vice president.”

Leni Robredo feared a conspiracy to oust her from her position as Vice-President and thus it seems jumped ship before she was pushed although she decline to say who the conspirators were and it has been denied by the Duterte administration that the alleged conspiracy ‘came from the camp of the President.
The ‘Bong Bong’ Marcos camp have called Leni Robredo hypocritical for crying foul and insisted her resignation four months into her term was long overdue “The vice presidency has indeed been stolen, and it was stolen by no less than Mrs Robredo,” said Marcos’s lawyer, Vic Rodriguez.
“I will not allow the Vice-Presidency to be stolen….I had been warned of a plot to steal the Vice-Presidency. I have chosen to ignore this and focus on the job at hand. But the events of recent days indicate that this plot is now being set in motion,” Robredo said on her Facebook page.
As the dust settles, observers have commented a voice of reason to temper Duterte’s actions will be sorely missed, even if Robredo has vowed this will allow her to tackle the Duterte administration head on as an opposition leader.
