SABIC and Sinotep plan Tianjin plastics plant
Saudi Arabia’s SABIC (the Saudi Basic Industry Corp) has announced the next step in their partnership with China’s SINOTEP (China Petroleum & Chemical Corp). A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two companies to begin construction on a $1 billion polycarbonate plant. The plastics produced will be used for industrial components and consumer products. The plant will be located in Tianjin, with a capacity to produce up to 260,000 tons a year.
SABIC and SINOTEP have been partners since 2010 and produce mainy petrochemical products. SABIC continues to increase their presence in China, and hope to open two new technology centers in China and India by 2013. China, the world’s fastest-growing economy – is seeing huge increases in demand for polycarbonate and other petrochemical products.
