Sarawak’s State Industrial Development Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan announced that his state has registered RM2.91 billion in investment projects for the first quarter of 2011.  The vast majority (RM2.87 billion) will come in the base metal industry, with the rest in wood-based products.  The projects are expected to create up to 1,262 jobs for area residents.

About 77% (RM2.25 billion) of the funds pledged are from domestic investors, with the rest mainly coming from Hong Kong’s investment in base metals and the British Virgin Islands’ investment in wood products.  The strong investment numbers for this quarter will surely propel Sarawak past last year’s total investments of RM3.95 billion.
