Siam Cement to set up plant in the Philippines
Thailand’s Siam Cement Group (SCG) is mulling to set up a pulpwood plantation and fiber cement board factory in the Philippines amid the country’s booming construction industry, the company said at a press meeting in Manila on October 18, according to a report by InterAksyon.
SCG officials were in Manila as part of the conglomerate’s region-wide celebration of its 100th year of operations. The company produces cement, chemicals, paper and other building materials.
The Thai conglomerate has been operating in the Philippines for over a decade. It has a ceramic tiles and sanitary wares manufacturing facility in Batangas under subsidiary Mariwasa Siam Ceramics Inc, a roof tiles factory also in Batangas under CPAC Monier Philippines Inc, and an industrial paper production plant in Bulacan under United Pulp and Paper Company.
SGC also controls energy firm Green Alternative Technology Specialist Inc, as well as trading units Green Siam Resources Inc, SCG Marketing Inc and SCG Trading Philippines Inc. SGC’s Philippine subsidiaries employ over 1,000 people.
SCG is currently talking to the Philippine government for the possibility of investing in a pulpwood plantation to serve as a raw material not only for paper production but also for textile, tableware and construction materials.
