Singapore got first luxury car vending machine (video)

Vietnam hacker group accused of spying on companies, journalistsA Singapore car dealership just opened what it calls a luxury car vending machine for real automobiles in the city state. The futuristic 15-story showroom on Jalan Bukit Merah is offering customers pre-owned super cars and classic luxury cars for purchase, including the brands Ferrari, Bentley, Maserati, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Porsche. The tower contains about 60 luxury cars, displaying them in its illuminated showcase.

According to the creator,  car vendor Autobahn Motors, customers on the ground floor can choose from a touchscreen which car they wish to see and ultimately purchase. The vehicle is brought down automatically by a special elevator system and arrives within one to two minutes thanks to a special Automotive Inventory Management System which is modeled after automatic parking systems, the company says.

After a test ride, customers can then complete their purchase via a tablet device and a customized app.

The idea for the “vending machine” was owing to land scarcity and high land prices in the city state, says the firm’s general manager Gary Hong.

The vending machine format was aimed at making efficient use of space when storing a lot of cars, but also called for being creative and innovative, he noted.
