Thailand finalises Qatar LNG deal

Thailand’s PTT has finally reached an agreement with Qatar to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the world’s largest supplier.

The finalised deal follows months of discussion between PTT Thailand, the countries government-backed oil and gas company, and QatarGas. In July this year, PTT President Pailin Chuchottaworn has said that the contract will be signed “very soon”.

However, in September, negotiations came to a halt when PTT  cancelled the deal after a price surge, and has signed alternative contracts with two suppliers, a topic that now obviously has been resolved.

The company has also been given the authorisation by Thailand’s energy ministry to buy an annual two million tonnes of LNG from Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Limited for 20 years starting from 2015, Thailand’s Energy Ministry’s National Energy Policy Office said in a statement on October 5.
