Bangkok-based travel agency Khiri Voyages has been appointed exclusive Thailand agent for Space Expedition Corporation (SXC), a Dutch company that is offering commercial flights into space.

SXC launched its Asia division on July 8 in Hong Kong and is now looking for agents throughout the region. Khiri Voyages will offer space trips for around $1 million exclusively for the Thai market.

The flights will be carried out by aerospace company XCOR Aerospace, a California-based private rocket engine and spaceflight development company, on a space craft called Lynx Mark II which will be shot around 100 kilometers above sea level. The space tourist will sit in the ‘co-pilot’ seat alongside a pilot-astronaut in a 4-square meters wide cockpit canopy and “enjoy an optimal view of the Earth and space,” the company said. Launchpads for the space craft are in Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles and in the Mojave desert in the US.

The $1 million ticket includes a training mission in the Netherlands and the space journey itself, business-class flights from Bangkok to both destinations, transfers, and deluxe accommodation for two people. Additional modules of pre-flight training, such as zero-gravity flights, are available, at extra cost, if the space traveler wants to subscribe to these.

SXC said it will facilitate space adventure travel for Thai nationals who book through Khiri Voyages, which has set up an introductory Thai-language at www.spacevoyages.asia.
