Top 10 escapes from the Singapore haze

Viceroy Bali Resort, IndonesiaTravel search site Skyscanner has taken a look at where Singaporeans fly in an attempt to escape the haze that covered the city state over the past two weeks at worst pollution levels ever on record.

It turned out that travel searches among families have seen the highest rise, with week-on-week searches for outbound flights on Skyscanner having increased by 22 per cent in the June 17-20 period. An increasing number of these travelers are looking to escape over a few days, with short-haul destinations being the favourites.

The most popular short-haul destination has been Bali, which overtook Bangkok as the leading Southeast Asian destination for Singaporeans in the period.

“While the increasing demand for outbound travel we’ve seen is unusual for the time of year, we would not be surprised to see this trend continue if the smog persists,” says Ira Noviani, Skyscanner’s Marketing Manager.

Top destinations from Singapore, June 17-20:

1. Bali (Denpasar)
2. Bangkok
3. Hong Kong
4. Phuket
5. Jakarta
6. Manila
7. Kuala Lumpur
8. Kota Kinabalu
9. Langkawi
10. Penang
