Vietnam’s rice export drops 17%
Vietnam exported about 6.3 million tonnes of rice during the January 1 – December 19, 2013 period, down about 17 per cent from the same period in 2012, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA). The country is targeting around 6.7 million tonnes of rice exports in the full year 2013.
Vietnam’s average rice export price has declined in 2013 so far, standing at around $432 per tonne, down about 5 per cent from 2012.
Domestic paddy prices in the Mekong Delta for common stock (25% broken) stand at around $385 to $395 per tonne, using current exchange rates. Vietnamese 5% broken domestic rice prices stand at around $410 to $420 per tonne.
In comparison, the Thai Rice Exporters Association says that Thailand’s 2013 rice exports are expected to be around 7 million tonnes, unchanged from previous year’s levels but up around 8 per cent from the association’s previous forecast of 6.5 million tonnes. Common rice from Thailand (25% broken) trades at $375 to $385, high quality 100% B grade at $435 to $445.
