Who is passenger 84?

With speculations over a possible terrorist attack on flight MH370 unfolding, questions arise why in the first passenger list –  leaked from Chinese airport authorities and not provided by Malaysia Airlines, which issued their own passenger list later – the name of passenger 84 is blurred out.

In the passenger manifest released by Malaysia Airlines, the passengers’ names come in another – alphabetical – order and show the name of Chinese national Annan Lin, aged 27, as passenger 84, which is obviously another person than in the Chinese list where only the person’s passport number (E33554978) can be seen.

In the uncensored list (see below right), a Chinese name is shown, and rumours in Chinese-speaking circles say the name indicates the person is Uyghur, a Muslim ethnic group in China.
