World’s first mermaid swimming school in Manila (video)

Mermaid Swimming AcademyLocated at a private venue with a large swimming pool in Makati, Manila, Philippines, the world’s first mermaid swimming academy proved extremely popular when it started its lessons in April 2013.

The idea, brought to the Philippines by US swimming instructor Djuna Rocha, unfolded in 2012 in Boracay, and the lessons were then brought to Manila. The school, that calls itself Philippine Mermaid Swimming Academy, or PMSA, offers two-hour class at $37 for those who want to learn “monofin swimming” in colourful mermaid costumes.

Besides the swimming lessons, there are also courses for mermaid snorkling and mermaid scuba diving on offer. Although the courses have proven popular mainly among female swimming enthusiasts, there are regular requests from male customers as well, the academy said.
